On November 22nd, we had our second meeting at Carnegie Vanguard.
We had some special guests join us and speak to the Congress about their respective roles and programs:
Al Jackson, learning coach
Athena Reed, Executive Director at Save our Kids America
Justin Fuentes, HISD High Schools Director
Ted Weisgal, Teacher of Robert’s Rules of Order
Here’s what the individual committees discussed:
The Governance committee amended the constitution, found here, and talked about creating a formal membership system.
The Outreach/Advocacy committees discussed the problems within their schools and delegated roles for managing social media accounts. They also worked out the logistics for starting a student-run blog.
The Agenda and Finance committees discussed holding alumni nights at each school and potential funding sources for the Congress.
We also talked about creating a representative system across all the high schools in HISD.
